Dürnstein Castle
Dürstein Castle (Burgruine Dürnstein) is the ruin of a medieval castle erected in the 12th century, located in the lower Austrian Wachau region. From the top of the castle you can overlook the area and the Danube river flowing just below. The castle is particularly known for being one of the places where King Richard I. of England (Richard the Lionheart), was emprisoned after being captured near Vienna by Duke Leopold V of Austria, from December 1192 until his extradition in March 1193.
